Privacy and cookies

What we collect, why, and how to change your mind. Last updated 16 October 2026.

Who we are

I Got You Pal (igotyoupal.com) is a free guide to local tradespeople in the UK, run by Brian McCormack. Brian is responsible for the personal information described on this page. Contact us about anything here at igotyoupaldirectory@gmail.com.

You can use the site without giving us any personal information. There are no accounts and no forms.

Analytics cookies

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to see how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (town or region, worked out from the IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), the device and browser, how people found the site, whether you use light or dark mode, and clicks on phone numbers and business websites. We use this to decide which towns and trades to improve.

Google processes this data for us and may handle it outside the UK under its own safeguards. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. We keep Google Analytics data for 2 months, which is Google's standard setting, and we do not use it for advertising.

Google Analytics only sets cookies if you accept, and our legal basis for that is your consent. Until you choose, it records a basic page visit without cookies, which cannot be linked to you or to your other visits. If you reject or dismiss the cookie message, nothing more is sent. You can change your choice at any time with , which is also at the bottom of every page.

Emails you send us

If you email us, for example to add, claim, update or remove a listing, we use your email address and what you send to deal with your request and keep the listing accurate. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running an accurate directory. Our email is provided by Google (Gmail). We keep these emails while the listing they relate to is on the site, and for up to 12 months after it is removed.

Business listings

We list local businesses using information they publish themselves or that is on public registers: the business's own website, Companies House, council-run Trusted Trader and Buy With Confidence schemes, and TrustMark. For a sole trader, a listing can include personal information such as a name and phone number. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in helping people find local tradespeople. We show the postcode district, not a street address, and we do not copy reviews or ratings.

If you run a listed business, use "Is this your business?" on your listing or email igotyoupaldirectory@gmail.com to correct or remove it. We remove or correct a listing within 14 days of your request, and always within one month.

Hosting and links

The site is hosted by GitHub Pages, which records visitors' IP addresses in its server logs for security. See the GitHub privacy statement.

Links to business websites carry a tag (utm_source=igotyoupal.com) so the business can see the visit came from us. It does not identify you. Other websites have their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it or stop using it. Email igotyoupaldirectory@gmail.com. We will reply within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
