About I Got You Pal

A free guide to local tradespeople in 74 UK towns and cities: 1,668 businesses checked against public records, with typical prices and what to check before you hire.

Who runs it

I Got You Pal is run by Brian McCormack. Email igotyoupaldirectory@gmail.com with questions, corrections or a business we should add.

You contact businesses yourself, by phone or through their website. We don't take bookings, pass on your details or take a cut of the job. No business pays to be listed. If that ever changes, paid listings will be clearly labelled.

How we check listings

Every listing shows where its details came from and the date we last checked them. We take details only from:

  • the business's own website
  • Companies House
  • TrustMark, the government-endorsed quality scheme
  • council-run schemes: Trusted Trader in Scotland and Buy With Confidence (Trading Standards) in England and Wales
  • trade bodies: the Master Locksmiths Association, the British Association of Removers and the National Carpet Cleaners Association

Before we list a business, we check that:

  • its website is live and belongs to the business, not a parked or for-sale domain
  • it is based in or near the town, from the address on its website or scheme profile
  • its phone number is a real local or freephone number, not a premium-rate line
  • if we found it only through its website, the domain has been registered for more than two years
  • if it does gas work, it publishes a Gas Safe registration number

We leave out national chains, franchises, job marketplaces and lead-generation sites that pass your enquiry on to someone else. We don't copy ratings or reviews from other websites, and we show the postcode district, not a street address.

We re-check gas engineers every 90 days, because Gas Safe registration can lapse, and other listings every year.

What a listing doesn't tell you

Our checks show that a business is real and local. They don't tell you about the quality of its work, its prices or whether its insurance is up to date. A listing is not a recommendation. Before you hire, get a written quote and use the checklist on each trade page.

Guide prices are typical UK ranges to help you judge a quote. They are not quotes, and your price depends on the job, access and materials.

Correcting or removing a listing

If you run a listed business, use "Is this your business?" on your listing or email igotyoupaldirectory@gmail.com. We correct or remove listings within 14 days. To be added, use "Add your business" on the page for your trade and town.
